How to Increase the Chances of Getting Pregnant

Getting pregnant is not as easy as it sounds; the chances of getting pregnant is quite low, around 20% per month for women around 30 years of age and perfectly healthy. This has to do with their biology.

In this article, we will discuss the various steps you can take to ensure pregnancy. I’ll try to avoid significant scientific terms that might go over your head as much as possible.

A little trip down memory lane, in school, you must’ve learned about how one gets pregnant, we will need some of that. If you don’t remember it, don’t worry, but be sure to read the following few paragraphs; otherwise, feel free to skip and jump to the below-mentioned steps.

Every month in the uterus, an old egg is replaced with a new and mature egg; this process occurs every month, and as we know it, it is called periods or menstruation. Every woman has a menstruation cycle; it is essential to recognize one’s menstrual cycle.

If you have regular cycles, you can ovulate (when the mature egg is released) around two weeks before your period. This is a region or period of a week that has shown the best rates of fertilization; it is the period where you have a chance of conceiving.

If you are facing irregular cycles, it will be tough to predict when you will ovulate and when your fertile window will be. There are various ways of finding it out. Some common methods are:

  • Ovulation predictor kit
  • Basal body temperature
  • Cervical mucus changes
  • Follicular monitoring

Once you know your cycle, it is essential to know that there is an ovulation period. This is the time when a new egg is traveling down the fallopian tube. This fresh egg is active for only one day i.e., 24 hours. If the egg is fertilized during this period, then it keeps traveling down the uterus, and conception is achieved.

1. Timing

Make sure to have sex during the fertility window, as discussed above. This increases the chances of pregnancy as the sperms are in the fallopian tube, once the sperm gets there, it can remain active for at least 4-5 days, hence higher chances of fertilization.

2. Performance

While having sex, the only thing that should be on your mind is the lubricant you are using. Some oils are known to degrade the fertility rate some oils you want to avoid are:-

  • Glycerine
  • Nonoxynol-9
  • Petroleum or petroleum-based products
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Parabens
  • Chlorhexidine Gluconate
  • Saliva

Note: – These are the ingredients that might be in the lubricant that you use, these are not lubricant names. Check for them in the ‘contents’ on the package. Saliva is a bit controversial as it is argued to carry diseases, but there is no hard evidence for the same. However, it is on the list just to be on the safer side.

3. Health

It is best to get a check-up from Dr. Shweta Goswami or obstetrician. It is essential to determine the condition of your health before having a baby.

Quit smoking and drinking as it is linked with infertility in males and females. It is not as easy as it seems, and this is a step that many struggle to tackle. So, do take your time. Reduce caffeine intake; it should be below 400 mg per day (amount may vary).

On the diet side, ensure you are consuming high fat and high fiber content foods and cut down on carbs and protein. Light exercises, avoid push-ups and crunches and adjust your diet accordingly to avoid heavy workouts. Increase Iron intake and start taking vitamin supplements if you have any deficiency.

Have a substantial breakfast; studies show that having a more massive breakfast have increased infertility rate, but cut down on evening meals; otherwise, you will gain weight.

The most common index people often refer to is the BMI (Google it, it’s quite easy to figure out). For healthy women, it is around 20 and 25. If you are above or below, hormonal changes may affect the fertility and health of the baby.

4. Age

Believe it or not, aging is the biggest problem mankind faces other than cancer. We now are spending more time in sickness and medicines than ever before. And yes, it does affect fertility. Age affects both male and female fertility, in males, it affects sperm quality (defective sperms, erectile dysfunction, sperm count, etc.), and in females, it affects fertility and increased cases of miscarriages.

Finally, all the best, and try your best for you and your future family. In case, you are facing any issue, you can visit the best IVF center in Noida and get your treatment done.
